ABC of me and a cake

Recently I was awarded an ABC (Awesome Blog Content) award by Janice from Farmersgirl Kitchen - thank you! I have to say it looks easier than it is to think of 26 words that relate to me especially the end of the alphabet. So here goes...

A - Australia where I spent a lot of childhood summers as my mum has 2 sisters there. I also have a lot of Australian friends and am the pseudo-Aussie of the group
B - Baking and blogging of course what else?
C - Charity. I currently work for a charitable organisation. I think it's important for everyone to do their bit in their own way. It's not just about donating money!
D - Desserts. My favourite part of the meal. It's very rare that I would say no to desserts.
E - Easy going personality. I'm quite laid back and tend to get on well with everyone.
F - Family and friends who are important to me.
G - Green.  I try to recycle as much as possible. I'm really pleased that my council does food waste recycling as well as mixed recycling.
H - Happy personality. I try to look on the bright side of life if possible and thus am often told that I'm "bubbly" and happy.
I - iPhone, iPad, iPod... I'm an apple addict and I can't live without them.
J - James Patterson, Jeffrey Deaver and Jodi Picoult - favourite authors of mine. Clearly I can't be a famous writer as my name does not start with a J!
K - KFC my secret guilty pleasure.
L - Live life to the fullest.
M - Messy. I like to think of it as an organised mess :) Most of the time I know where things are or at least I think I know where they are!
N - naughty and nice. I'm nice most of the time but sometimes I can be naughty too!
O - Opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if it's not the same as yours.
P- Peas. Absolutely hate them.
Q - Quorn. I don't like cooking meat at home so I tend to use Quorn products which I love.
R - Rafflecopter. My new found friend (@TwitTottee I had to work it in here somehow!! LOL)
S - Sleep. Can't get enough of it. Literally.
T - Tomato juice. My favourite drink - some of my friends think I'm weird but I just love it!
U - Undersea walk. One of the most amazing, unique experiences I've had in Mauritius.
V - Venice.  One of my favourite holiday destinations. I love the canals, atmosphere, scenery and of course the food :)
W - Wicked musical. One of my favourite musicals.
X - X factor. Never really understood the attraction.
Y - Yorkshire terriers.  My parents have one and he is the cutest thing ever!
Z - Zoolander. Funny, silly film. (Peter this is for you!)

Now I need to nominate a few bloggers and I hope they will join in the fun (no obligation of course!)

I did promise you a cake in the title and in the spirit of the ABC award, I made an ABC cake! It's an apple, banana/blueberry and cinnamon cake. I made up the recipe around the ingredients I wanted to use and put it in a bundt tin as they always look pretty. The cake was really moist and flavourful and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I'll be making this again :)

ABC - apples, banana, blueberry and cinnamon

 put in a bundt tin

dust with a little icing sugar

 Delicious!

An original recipe by bakingaddict

250g plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
180g caster sugar
60mls vegetable oil
2 ripe bananas
2 apples, peeled, cored and chopped
150g fresh blueberries
2 eggs

  • Preheat the oven to 180C.
  • Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, roughly mash the bananas.
  • Add the eggs and vegetable oil and mix.
  • Stir in the dry ingredients.
  • Add the apples and give it a quick stir.
  • Finally fold in the blueberries (I coated them in 1 tablespoon of flour to prevent all of them sinking to the bottom and it worked - you can see a blueberry in the middle of the slice in the photo above!)
  • Pour the batter into a bundt tin and bake for approximately 45 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  • Leave to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Dust with icing sugar before serving.

I have been awarded a few blog awards recently, some quite a few weeks ago now! I sincerely apologise for the delay in publicly acknowledging them but I really do appreciate each and every one of them. So this is a big THANK YOU for the following awards:

Big thanks goes to Amelia from Amelia's De-ssert and to Caroline from Caroline Makes for the Happy Blogger Award. It really makes me feel happy especially when I've had a very bad day in the kitchen like today (cake on floor - inedible and deep cut on finger)

Big thanks to Caroline from Caroline Makes, Jo from what do you make of my cake?, Daisy from nevertoosweet and Heather from Miss Cakeaholic for the Versatile Blogger and Sunshine Award.
